Maelor Foods Ltd have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Manager to join our team at our state-of-the-art poultry processing facility in Wrexham.

The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance, development and adherence to the HACCP plan. Their key role is to ensure the process is fit for purpose and meets both external and internal requirements including food safety, legal compliance, customer standards and specifications.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor trends of all technical equipment to ensure they are fully functional and utilised with appropriate maintenance plans
  • Ensuring that the HACCP plan is current and working correctly.
  • Conduct internal / GMP / quality audits with the team sharing findings and actions.
  • Setting QA compliance objectives and ensuring that targets are achieved
  • Dealing with customer complaints.
  • Working with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers.
  • Ensuring compliance with Industry standards and legislation.
  • Defining quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff.
  • Managing the quality management system, setting up and maintaining controls and documentation procedures.
  • Collating and analysing performance data and charts against defined key performance indicators.
  • Ensuring tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and that non-conformance are thoroughly investigated.
  • Supervising technical staff in carrying out tests and checks
  • Writing technical and management systems reports
  • Bringing together staff of different disciplines and driving the group to plan, formulate and agree comprehensive quality procedures
  • Development of interactive quality initiatives to help staff maintain and drive quality standards.
  • Liaising with customer’s auditors and ensuring the execution of corrective action and compliance to customers specifications.
  • Establishing standards of service for customers or clients.
  • Drive best in class standards in all people matters within area of responsibility including training, performance reviews, disciplinary and grievance issues and non-attendance
  • Ensure Bird Welfare standards are maintained and upheld at all times

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required


  • Previous experience of supervising / managing a team in a FMCG environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of food safety legislation
  • Advanced knowledge of HACCP and Food Safety
  • Excellent customer facing and supplier management experience together with outstanding organisational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Understanding of BRC and retail customer’s expectations
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement performance whilst leading others
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to liaise with varying stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.


  • Previous experience / management of working within Poultry Processing
  • Welfare experience and or qualification
  • HACCP qualification to at least intermediate standard level 3.
  • Audit qualified to IRCA level, internal or lead auditor.
