How it works

Food Skills Cymru provides training support to the Welsh food and drink manufacturing and processing industry to ensure employees have the right skills. Funding is available for the completion of technical and staff development training – both accredited and non-accredited.

The amount of funding available for completing training courses is dependent on the size of the business

  • Micro businesses
    up to 80% (1 – 10 employees)
  • Small and medium employers
    up to 70% (11 – 249 employees)
  • Large organisations
    up to 50% (> 250 employees)

We are even able to offer bespoke training for businesses.

Is my business eligible?

Here’s a simple tick list to see if you are eligible. Are you a…

  • production or manufacturing site located in Wales;
  • business that has not received more than £325,000 of Small Amounts of Financial Assistance’ (SAFA) since the 1st of January 2021, as defined by Article 364 paragraph 4 of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement;
  • business that can show a clear return on investment on increased training.

Funding support available for your business

Accessing our funding support is an easy process. Follow these six simple steps.

Complete a Skills Diagnostic with a member of the Food Skills Cymru team.

Fill in a funding application form and return to your contact at Food Skills Cymru.

Upon application form approval, Lantra will choose the most appropriate training provider to deliver the training from our Framework of training providers. If your requirements are very bespoke we’ll work with you to commission wider support through Sell2Wales.

Lantra will send a funding approval letter to your business and the chosen training provider at the same time.

It is up to the Training Provider and you as the business to contact each other to organise training.

Before the training course commences, your business must pay the training provider the contribution agreed within the funding approval letter and upon completion, the Training Provider will claim the remainder of the course costs from Lantra.
