Job Description

Hensol Castle Distillery is South Wales’s first full-scale gin and spirits distillery and contract bottling plant. We are looking for an experienced Quality, Safety and Environment Manager to build on our recent achievements and help us achieve our future objectives. Working alongside the current management team and reporting to the Director of Operations you will lead and coordinate all aspects of Quality, Safety and Environmental at the organisation. You will provide technical expertise through all disciplines to members of the manufacturing team, and all layers of management.

THE ROLE:

  • Manage and, maintain the organisations food safety management system (FSMS).
  • Lead the site to achieve BRC certification within a set timeline. Currently SALSA approved, so developing that system in line with BRC requirements.
  • Deal with non-conformities and co-ordinate an analysis into their causes with the corresponding area.
  • Manage customer returns/complaints, provide a response and also an action plan to resolve them.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and execute the carrying out of internal and external audits.
  • Management of own documentation, reports and statistics.
  • Ensure fulfilment of legal regulations and the guidelines on Health and Safety.
  • Work with Group Lead in preventive actions in relation to safety at work.
  • Develop positive relationships with all key stakeholders.
  • Provide input into whole group health and safety monthly meetings.
  • Co-ordinate tasks to ensure the fulfilment of the provisions of the Prevention Management System: Risk assessment, improvement actions and corrective/predictive actions, prevention service, audits, issue and ensure documentation and procedures/instructions, analyse accident rates, etc.
  • Co-ordinate the handing out and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Define and co-ordinate safety requirements for emergency plans, fire drills, access control, co-ordination of subcontracted firms etc.
  • Deal with non-conformities and co-ordinate the analysis of their causes and carry out corrective, preventive and improvement actions.
  • Ensure compliance with current environmental legislation: waste waters, emissions, residues, etc.

THE CANDIDATE:

  • Minimum of a NEBOSH qualification (Certificate essential, but Diploma preferred).
  • Practitioner of IEMA or similar environmental qualification.
  • Food Safety & HACCP Level 3 Desirable, but would be essential once in role.
  • Experience of implementing, administrating, and auditing management systems desirable.
  • Experience of leading an organisation through BRC certification essential.
  • Experience in food manufacturing essential.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK H&S & Environmental legislation.
  • Fully PC literate and proficient in use of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Ability to communicate with all stakeholders at all levels.
