MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Engineering & Controls Manager

As the Electrical Engineering & Controls Manager, reporting in to the Site Engineering Manager you will be responsible taking the lead on improving our site electrical and control systems and developing our engineering personnel.

Some key tasks will cover:

  • To operate a Maintenance Management programme directed towards optimising plant availability. Control, monitor and review the maintenance, calibration, external service, repair of all production plant and equipment, within the maintenance schedules
  • To ensure that all maintenance and contract work is carried out with due regard to food safety requirements and best practice

  • Provide leadership and expertise to the Electrical Engineering teams, providing hands-on support where necessary

  • Organise and manage the engineering and contract resources to provide a quality service, adherence to standards and procedures
  • To be part of the engineering management team responsible for operational decision-making and key performance indicators
  • To assist the Engineering Planning team in monitoring and reviewing the planned electronic and electrical maintenance frequency and schedules. Ensure that all requirements and time scales are properly adhered too
  • To help manage sufficient stocks of electrical spares to allow maintenance and servicing to OEM recommendations

What are the key ingredients needed for the role?

  • Time served and ideally have a HNC/HND in relevant subject area
  • Previous experience as lead or head of a department
  • Ability to work with a wide range of systems within the manufacturing facility, including: PLCs & Networking Systems, VSD’s, DC convertors, Soft Starters, process control instrumentation, power distribution both HV and LV
  • Good understanding of robotics, packaging lines, drives, conveyors, pumps and valves
  • Ideally experienced in Food and Drink, FMCG, Packaging or similar process industries
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement and root cause analysis
  • Trained to the 18th Edition Electrical Regulations
  • Use of CMMS, ideally SAP, but not essential

Working hours: Monday – Friday: Predominately working the day shift, but will need to be happy & flexible to accommodate the needs of the business and role when required, by working outside of these hours. The bakery itself operates across a 24/7 operation.

General Operative

Role Purpose

Working as part of the operations team in the factory, undertaking all duties as directed by their manager/supervisor. Play a key role in production, storage, cleaning, Health & Safety and all other tasks as directed by management. Key Responsibilities: 

Work in the production area conducting a wide variety of tasks, such as line operation, packing, cleaning, distribution etc. Lift weights of at least 15kgs, stand for 4+ hours and be able to move around the factory floor without assistance. Must be able to work for extended periods in a cold environment.

Be familiar with the daily production plan and work as part of the team to set up the line, complete checks and ensuring materials are ready to use. Perform all pre start, hygiene and safety checks as directed.

Report all breakages, damages or defaults of equipment to the Line Supervisor, ensuring all machinery is only used when it is safe to use. Record checks as and when directed.

Ensure that the product is of the highest standard and report any issues to the Line supervisor immediately.

Co-operate with all company training, asking questions and ensuring they feel satisfied in relation to all aspects of the area and role they are working in.

Reporting any accidents or near misses is expected and assistance with any investigation is a prerequisite of the Company’s safety policy.

Participate fully in Lean Manufacturing processes and embrace new methods of working.

Other duties will be part of the role from time to time – this will be specified by your direct line Supervisor.

Skills / Experience: 

  • Previous production experience highly beneficial but not essential as full training will be given.

  • review HACCP  at least annually and ensure the identified hazards are under control and CCPs are monitored effectively. Lead and Develop new product HACCP with the nominated  HACCP team.
  • liaise with NPD Manager to advise on Quality procedures
  • liaise with Operations Manager to develop measurable  KPI targets for the whole site and review them  monthly .
  • address and resolve  any process  problems  that could impact product safety, legality and quality.
  • address and resolve critical suppliers issues while still maintaining their approval.
  • Address and resolve all customers complaints with effective close out. Produce and analyse trend of complaints to ensure continuous improvement.
  • ensure that all internal  or external laboratory testing/internal equipment calibration is carried out to schedule and meets required specifications.
  • Develop and implement a pro-active new testing regime to meet business needs
  • Implement a product positive release system based on HACCP and external Lab micro verification.
  • Develop and implement a product mass balance and monitor it  daily to highlight and reduce wastage.
  • deal with  all site NCRs and their effective close out with corrective action plan.
  • Order starter cultures and laboratory tests consumables.
  • Oversee health and safety daily and liaise with health and safety contractor and Directors.
  • Plan and arrange maintenance visit for critical plant and measuring equipment.
  • address and resolve any issues raised in routine inspection visits from EHO and Trading Standards
  • Verify product recipe information is accurate and meets the label information by  calculation and analysis.
  • determine and manage training needs as relevant to the business.
  • maximise profitability while maintaining standards and reducing wastage.
  • Ensure that  all quality records are accurate and are kept for the correct length of time.

ReAct Scheme

If you’ve been made redundant, you could be entitled to ReAct funding to retrain or update your skills. If you’ve got a new employer lined up, they too could get funding towards your wages and further training.

Support under the ReAct scheme is available for individuals who:

  • have become unemployed in the last 3 months as a result of redundancy, are currently unemployed, and who have not been in continuous employment for 6 weeks or more since being made redundant
  • are currently under notice of redundancy
  • have not undertaken any publicly funded training since being made redundant, including the work-based learning suite of programmes
