Electrical Engineering & Controls Manager

As the Electrical Engineering & Controls Manager, reporting in to the Site Engineering Manager you will be responsible taking the lead on improving our site electrical and control systems and developing our engineering personnel.

Some key tasks will cover:

  • To operate a Maintenance Management programme directed towards optimising plant availability. Control, monitor and review the maintenance, calibration, external service, repair of all production plant and equipment, within the maintenance schedules
  • To ensure that all maintenance and contract work is carried out with due regard to food safety requirements and best practice
  • Train and develop department personnel to achieve a multi skilled integrated team-working environment. Provide technical leadership
  • To produce a continuous improvement plan, targeted at increasing productivity from existing plant and reducing maintenance costs

  • Provide leadership and expertise to the Electrical Engineering teams, providing hands-on support where necessary

  • Ability to work with a wide range of systems within the manufacturing facility, including: PLCs & Networking Systems, VSD’s, DC convertors, Soft Starters, process control instrumentation, power distribution both HV and LV
  • Good understanding of robotics, packaging lines, drives, conveyors, pumps and valves
  • Ideally experienced in Food and Drink, FMCG, Packaging or similar process industries
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement and root cause analysis
  • Trained to the 18th Edition Electrical Regulations

You will manage the maintenance of the site facilities, providing service support from both internal and external resources in a timely, cost and energy efficient manner.

What are the key ingredients needed for the role?

You will have a time served qualification in either Electrical / Mechanical to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent standard), along with a strong appreciation for H&S via an IOSH / NEBOSH qualification. Use of continuous improvement tools and techniques will be a key, in particular TPM would be a bonus but is not essential.  

Is it highly desirable you have experience in leading a site services strategy from a FMCG environment, with management experience highly desirable as would working within a unionised environment? 

Ideally we would like candidates to have any of the following: Green Belt Six Sigma, Food Safety / Hygiene qualification, Gas Duty holder GA100, Legionella awareness or Asbestos awareness. Any further educations or professional development such as a Degree, NVQ Level 4 or ILM Level 5 would be a plus.  

As this is a cross functional role, the ability to build key relationships quickly across various teams is essential, excellent communication skills are a must, as you will be working within a large and busy fast paced bakery.

ReAct Scheme

If you’ve been made redundant, you could be entitled to ReAct funding to retrain or update your skills. If you’ve got a new employer lined up, they too could get funding towards your wages and further training.

Support under the ReAct scheme is available for individuals who:

  • have become unemployed in the last 3 months as a result of redundancy, are currently unemployed, and who have not been in continuous employment for 6 weeks or more since being made redundant
  • are currently under notice of redundancy
  • have not undertaken any publicly funded training since being made redundant, including the work-based learning suite of programmes
